History & Heritage

We have a unique legacy of resources, including locally rare ecosystems, species, artefacts, buildings with heritage value or green credentials as well as diverse open green space

Our Park offers you the opportunity to travel through time:

  • seeing 250 million years old rocks in the Brickpit
  • fast forward to 28,000 years ago when Aboriginal people first came to Homebush Bay
  • look at what has happened in the 200 years since Europeans arrived in the area

To learn more about the history of our Park, take your pick of the topics below:

An Oral History of the environs of Sydney Olympic Park entitled "Twenty Twenty Hindsight" includes interviews with some of the area's longstanding residents, scientists, workers and environmentalists who discuss the history of land use and the subsequent clean-up.
