Sydney Olympic Park Authority is preparing to undertake its annual Spring Bird Census, and is calling on interested members of the community who would like to help.
The Spring Bird Census is the Authority's biggest and longest-running survey, and has been carried out since 2004 in partnership with the Cumberland Bird Observers Club.
The Census provides an annual snapshopt of birds across Sydney Olympic Park to identify trends and changes in bird populations, with the information gathered used to test and implement management intervention strategies.
Training for volunteers will take place on Tuesday 10 September, with the first survey to occur on Tuesday 17 September. In total, eight weekly surveys will be completed (on Tuesday mornings from 7am-9am) from mid-September until early-November 2019.
Surveys are undertaken in teams, with inexperienced volunteers assisted by skilled bird watchers from the Cumberland Bird Observers Club.
