Japanese VIPs visit Sydney Olympic Park

His Excellency Mr Yoshiro Mori, former Prime Minister of Japan and President of the Organising Committee for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and Mr Fujio Mitarai, Chairman and CEO of Canon inc, President of the Organising Committee for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and Chairman of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, were recent special guests of Sydney Olympic Park Authority.

Amid mounting anticipation of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and the upcoming 2019 Rugby World Cup tournament, the Japanese VIP guests toured Sydney Olympic Park on 13 October to experience first-hand the facilities of a lively post-Olympic destination and to learn lessons on how to successfully create a post-Games precinct with long lasting benefits to its city.

Hosted by Sydney Olympic Park Authority CEO, Mr Charles Moore, and by Executive Manager of Marketing, Communications & Engagement, Ms Susan Skuodas, the VIP guests enjoyed a driving tour of numerous venues including the Sydney Olympic Park Archery Centre, Aquatic Centre, Sports Centre, Hockey Centre, Tennis Centre, Netball Centre, the Australian Rules Football Centre and Tom Wills Oval, the Newington former athletes’ village, Qudos Bank Arena, Sydney Showground and Spotless Stadium.

The tour showcasing the Park’s post-Olympic legacy also included a special stop at ANZ Stadium, where the Japanese guests met with ANZ Stadium CEO, Mr Daryl Kerry, who shared an overview of the Stadium’s redevelopment and use since Sydney 2000, as well as future plans for the venue.

The Sydney Olympic Park Master Plan 2030 also prominently featured in the group’s discussions, along with other topics concerning the Park’s ongoing evolution.

The success of Sydney Olympic Park is globally renowned. Sydney Olympic Park Authority has hosted visits from organisers of Athens, Beijing, London and Rio in support of the planning and legacy of their Olympic and Paralympic Games.
