Sydney Olympic Park’s Newington Armory is adding another use to the impressive list of activities carried out in the heritage-listed precinct, with a new school campus now making its home in the Armory’s facilities.

SEDA College, a provider of alternative education pathways, has worked with Sydney Olympic Park Authority to establish a campus utilising the heritage-listed Building 46 of the Armory. Year 11 classes start this year and additional classes will be added as the students move into Year 12 in 2018.

What sets SEDA College apart from normal senior schooling is that it offers real-world skill sets in addition to the usual HSC subject areas. To do so SEDA has industry partnerships with Cricket NSW, Sydney FC, South Sydney Rabbitoh’s, Netball NSW and the Western Sydney Wanderers, allowing students to develop practical skills in a wide range of sport’s and events-related areas.

“We bring out the best in our students though our applied learning approach and by focussing on their passion for sport” said School Principal Kate O’Donnell.

“The Armory’s facilities and proximity to Sydney Olympic Park’s venues are a perfect fit for us” Ms O’Donnell added.

The College’s arrival further expands the Park’s education activities, with SEDA College joining the Australian College of Physical Education, the S.P. Jain School of Global Management and Western Sydney University, all of whom have operations based within the Park. This is in addition to the curriculum-based environmental education programs run by Sydney Olympic Park Authority.

“It’s the Authority’s role to open up the Park for education and learning and SEDA College is an excellent example of that” said Sydney Olympic Park Authority’s Manager of Education, Mike Bartlett.

“It’s also great to see the Park’s heritage buildings adapted to exciting new uses to meet the needs of the wider community” Mike noted.

SEDA College is hosting a number of Open Days and Information Sessions for those who might like to know more.
