Working towards a greener Park

Sydney Olympic Park Authority is progressively installing energy-efficient light fittings across Sydney Olympic Park as part of a long-term drive to reduce energy consumption, greenhouse gas emissions and costs.

The ongoing program has already witnessed a new light-emitting diode (LED) luminary developed and installed to fit within 66 existing light fittings at Cathy Freeman Park, Station Square and the Yulang.

From the month of October to the end of December 2011, a re-lamping initiative of P2 car park was conducted. 220 lights were replaced from 250W conventional globes to 70W LED street lights, with an anticipated energy saving of 173,000kWh per year.

A bi-product of the P2 car park works is a marked gain in illumination, contributing to an improvement in visibility levels and consequently safety.

P1 car park has undergone similar works to that of P2 car park, benefiting from the installation of approximately 2,200 new light fittings in lieu of an older version, resulting in a 22% reduction in electricity consumption.

Sydney Olympic Park Authority seeks for Sydney Olympic Park to be recognised locally, nationally and internationally as a place that champions sustainable development and achieves excellence in environmental management.

Other Sydney Olympic Park Authority projects underway to support environmental sustainability are in the areas of water conservation, energy conservation, sustainable materials selection, waste management, transportation, biodiversity and pollution control.
