Sydney Showground Stadium Upgrade
Construction of the new multi-purpose Stadium began in April 2011 for completion in May 2012.
Once the $65 million redevelopment is completed it will be the home of the Greater Western Sydney Giants AFL team and is set to be the best boutique stadium in Australia, seating capacity growing from 13,000 to 25,000, complete with new covered grandstands, corporate facilities and the largest video screen in the Southern Hemisphere.
The facility will continue to showcase the largest event in the Southern Hemisphere the Sydney Royal Easter Show. The venue will be a multipurpose stadium and host other sporting codes, concerts and festivals.
Peter King, the former Chief Executive of the Royal Agricultural Society of NSW (RAS) said "the upgrade is generating significant economic activity in Western Sydney and once complete will enable the RAS to attract and retain major events well into the future."
“Enhancing the Stadium facilities will create an additional $446 million of economic and social value for NSW and an estimated 3,400 full time Western Sydney jobs,” said Mr King.
The Stadium upgrade supports the Master Plan for Sydney Olympic Park to continue to develop and enhance its reputation as a premier sporting, commercial, residential and entertainment precinct.
